A new concept in the making
What's the news?
We've been working on something new for some time. It's taking far longer than we ever imagined to bring it to market. Firstly it has to do the job it's designed for really well and not break. Secondly, it turns out it's pretty difficult to get a new product made in the UK which has a low carbon footprint and is easily recyclable. We sometimes wonder if we're asking too much?
We still love the product concept though, so are pressing on. If you'd like to support our dream of getting to market, please invest in one of our art prints as proceeds go towards our new product development.
Progress to date
Version 1 - A chance to innovate (A dud)
At the end of six month's product testing this version was deemed not sturdy enough. It was also concluded that the price point would be an obstacle to take up. Concerted efforts were made to reduce costs. Remaining true to our sustainability goals, however, stopped us from being able to reduce the product costs further. Additional sticking points were its weight (bulky to post) and effort to customer to put in place before use. An altogether leaner and more efficient solution was needed.
Version 2 - A learning experience (aborted)
Initial tests had gone well and we were about to make an investment for a small batch to be created and sent out for a soft launch with selected partners when we discovered the material had been 'green washed'. We learnt valuable lessons about what the exact questions are that we need to ask when talking to manufacturers about their materials.
Version 3 - Valuable intel (A flop)
It was all looking good... but it didn't last. After three months in situ our product failed.
Version 4 - In progress...
Currently awaiting samples of new material ready for cutting, printing and testing. We believe we're close to an MVP. This version could be it, but let's be honest, we felt that way about each of our previous versions! Still, we maintain our enthusiasm for our latest iteration and can't wait to move forward with it.
